My name is Sonia Rajendra Tiwari.
I'm a Visual Designer turned Ed-Tech researcher. I have a BS in Electronic Media and MFA in Animation. I worked in the gaming industry as a Visual Designer and UX Designer. Now I'm converging my creative skills in researching and developing educational games! I have worked in India and US over the past 12 years. I'm currently a Doctoral fellow at Penn State University's Learning, Design and Technology (LDT) program, funded by the World Campus GA Fellowship Program.
Growing up Dyslexic, Visualization skills have been a survival mechanism for me to do well as a student! Fortunately this skill of quickly interpreting text in visual form also comes in handy as a researcher in K-12 space, for designing educational tools for the younger audience who have a surprisingly good eye for strong visuals!
As an educational researcher, I appreciate AECT in bringing together global talent in an effort to share existing knowledge and further improve educational communications and technologies! If given the opportunity to serve as a School Media & Technology Division GSA Representative, I would definitely bring a few different (and hopefully new) perspectives based on my experiences as a parent who gets to witness the nuances of school education, my enthusiasm for K-12 education as a researcher, my love for learning as someone who had to struggle as a Dyslexic, high regard for school teachers (who seem undervalued for what they do!) and the immense curiosity to learn from the experts in this field. I believe people do well working in certain positions if they really, absolutely enjoy what they do - and this seems to be like a position I would thoroughly enjoy and (hopefully) contribute something worthwhile!
Thanks so much for the consideration!
Sonia
