Culture, Learning and Technology
GSA Representative

Tye Deal
Nova Southeastern University

As a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University, Senior Instructional Designer at Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii, former Blended Education Design Specialist in China, and a member of the AECT culture, learning and technology (CLT) division, I have delved deeper into my passion of access and equity in education. My research in the field of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) is centered on culturally responsive blended pedagogy. The expertise in the CLT community has challenged me to look critically at the trends and issues in the field. I want to harness that knowledge and leverage my experience to magnify the voice and happenings around the world in culture, learning, and technology.

Through my journeys and travels, I have learned that cross-collaboration and learning communities contribute to efficiency and sustainability. Therefore, in this role, I will collaborate with other divisions to maximize our reach within AECT and broaden the population our work will serve. Additionally, by uniting graduate students with experts in our division, I plan to establish a thriving network of graduate students interested in this niche field and strengthen support in the development of research agendas. Another critical area I would like to explore is the establishment of an international pipeline of future CLT members comprised of students transitioning from undergraduate studies or the professional workforce into Educational Communications & Technology.

While my passion runs deep and ideas meander, I recognize that no one person is stronger than the community she works with or serves. Therefore, as I grow in this role, I am excited to learn with each of you and execute the innovative processes that derives from such a talented community. Humbly, I ask for your vote as the GSA representative as we grow and impart change in education throughout the world.
