Minkyoung Kim
Instructional Consultant (Texas Tech University)

Minkyoung Kim is an instructional consultant of Center for Innovation in E-Learning at Texas Tech University. She received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in Instructional Systems Technology after eight years as an instructional designer and consultant with IBM and another company. Since starting her career, she has devoted herself to developing scholarship, teaching, and practical professional expertise in the fields of Instructional Design and Educational Technology. As a senior consultant at IBM, she engaged and managed a variety of consulting projects on change and human performance improvement for a diverse array of clients in different industries. Moreover, she has been helping faculty members improve their teaching as an instructional consultant at Indiana University as well as at Texas Tech University for five years.

A synthesis of her practical experiences and subsequent doctoral work shaped her research agenda, which centers on systemic change and instructional design theories of the learner-centered paradigm. She developed a strong desire to be a researcher who can help lead the field of instructional design into the paradigm of learner-centered instruction. She conducted several research studies on project-based learning, which is a learner-centered approach, with an emphasis on personalized instructional support. She recently started another study focusing on competency-based personalized learning (CBPL) with several other scholars in a collaborative manner to attempt to determine the ideal nature of CBPL for different situations as well as how CBPL is currently applied in practice.

She served as secretary/treasurer for 2014-2015 and currently serves as a division officer. With her unshakable enthusiasm in systemic change and extensive professional experience, it is her sincere wish to devote herself to improving and contributing to the community of scholars. It would be her greatest pleasure to serve as a leadership member in the AECT Systems Thinking and Change Division.
