Sandra Nunn

Dr. Sandra Nunn is currently seeking the position of VP of Professional Development for the AECT Culture, Learning and Technology Division.  As her experience will attest, Dr. Nunn demonstrates the highest level of professionalism because of her comprehensive experience in various disciplines throughout the course of her career.  This unique experience provides her with a unique perspective to bring the highest level of professional development to members of the Culture, Learning and Technology Division.  

As a well-rounded executive with 31 years combined experience in private industry, government, and diplomacy, Dr. Nunn possesses a wealth of knowledge in organizational leadership, global management, project management, and business development in multicultural environments.  During her career, she has served as a business executive, project manager, engineer, MBA, diplomat, entrepreneur, federal agent, international investigator, goodwill ambassador, and humanitarian.  Her most noteworthy experiences include service on two diplomatic tours on behalf of the U.S. Government to Eastern and Western Europe during the UN Sanctions against Serbia in 1994-1995.  Her experience has brought her in contact with the President of the United States, high level government officials, heads of state, CEOs, and other top professionals.    

From 1988-1999, Dr. Nunn served as a highly-decorated federal agent with the U.S. Customs Service where she enforced federal laws regarding money laundering, narcotics smuggling, and arms smuggling.  Her investigations have been featured in TIME and Businessweek as well as other national media.  Because of her extensive experience in different disciplines, Sandy possesses unique skills and qualifications as a leader, visionary, problem-solver, and communicator to achieve results.  Her exemplary work has earned her more than 26 awards from the FBI, the U.S. Customs Service, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Organizational for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), foreign governments, and private organizations.  She has appeared extensively in the national and international media, testified before the U.S. Senate, and was also featured as a guest speaker at prestigious Smith College.  In addition, she previously served on the Board of Directors for an international public company as well as an international nonprofit organization.

Currently, Dr. Nunn serves as an executive with two consulting firms specializing in business management and national security consulting.  She also holds executive and board member positions with several non-profit organizations addressing education, foreign affairs, and judicial accountability.  Further, Dr. Nunn serves as a Board Member and specialist in Leadership Management for an entertainment company where she is currently collaborating on several future movie projects.  As a research, scholar, and educator, Dr. Nunn serves as a Research Fellow and Associate Faculty member with the Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research and School of Advanced Studies at University of Phoenix where she specializes in ethics, leadership, education, and technology.  Currently, she is helping to oversee and coordinate the Dissertation to Publication project at the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies research centers involving more than 90 scholars composed of current professors and alumni.  Dr. Nunn is an Editor and Reviewer for the Cogent Business & Management journal published in the UK by Taylor & Francis.  She is also the Guest Editor for a special Symposium entitled "Achieving Ethical Leadership" for the Journal of Leadership Studies published in the US by Wiley.  Dr. Nunn’s work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals published by Wiley as well as a scholarly book by Springer International. As a new member of AECT and the CLT division, Dr. Nunn and her colleagues were the recipients of the McJulien Scholar Best Paper Award at the 2016 AECT Convention in Las Vegas for their contribution entitled: “Foundational Theories of Social Media Tools and Cultural Competency: A Systematic Literature Review.”  This work will also be featured in a new book to be published by Routledge in March 2017 entitled: “Culture, Learning and Technology: Research and Practice” (edited by Angela D. Benson, Roberto Joseph, and Joi L. Moore).  In December 2016, Dr. Nunn and other colleagues were honored to learn that one of their articles published in June 2016 entitled "Learning Analytics Methods, Benefits, and Challenges in Higher Education: A Systematic Literature Review" was the 3rd most downloaded article in 2016 for the Online Learning Journal, speaking to the timeliness of the team's research on this topic.

Dr. Nunn holds two graduate degrees:  a Doctor of Management (DM) in Organizational Leadership and an MBA in Global Management, where she graduated with highest honors. She also holds a BS in Electronics Engineering Technology and an AA in General Studies.  For her outstanding work and contributions, Sandy was accorded lifetime membership in Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business as well as the International Women’s Leadership Association.  She was also bestowed the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel with The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels by the Governor of Kentucky for her dedication to public service.  Currently, Dr. Nunn is working on several scholarly publishing projects and also intends to publish a book regarding her work during the international UN sanctions in the Balkans.  Through her collaborative efforts, Sandy’s business and professional goals are to work on projects that help better the global community through greater ethics and multicultural awareness.
