Research & Theory
Secretary

Sagun Giri
Pennsylvania State University

I am a PhD student at the Learning, Design and Technology Department at the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining the PhD program at Penn State, I worked as a research assistant at Dare Institute, MA with Michael Lamport Commons Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School.

I have been a member at AECT since 2005. I was selected as Graduate Student Representative for 2018, and I am working alongside leaders of the Research and Theory Division to prepare for next year’s conference. This year, I am running for the Secretary Positon, and would be honored to take on an active role in order to help the Research and Theory Division with their mandate and conference preparation.

Over the past five years I have held multiple positions that have helped developed leadership, managerial and administrative skills. With Dr. Commons, I helped design and conduct studies stages of development, behavioral development, education technology, and game based learning. At Dare Institute, I also oversaw and managed summer internship programs and supervised summer interns. My job was to advertise summer jobs, conduct interviews, hire students from various colleges, assign tasks and supervise progress within ongoing research projects. I also worked as Managing Editor for an American Psychological Association (APA) journal, Behavioral Development Bulletin. In this position, I oversaw and managed the production of four journal issues in my one and half year tenure. I helped editors and section editors recruit manuscripts, developed detailed logs to document and track the progress of fifty plus manuscripts, wrote meeting minutes and consistently communicated with authors and editors to update them on the progress of the manuscripts.

These professional experiences, may qualify me as a potential candidate for the secretary position in the Division of Research and Theory (RTD). If I am elected as the secretary in the RTD, I will work with RTD leaders to help and support RTD conference preparation, professional development seminars and other Research and Theory initiatives.

I would appreciate your vote and your support.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sagun Giri
