Secretary

Bridgette Epps
East Carolina University

I am Bridgette Epps and I am a graduate student and research assistant at East Carolina University. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I have worked for Citibank 7 years as well as the special needs community for over  12 years.  My background in business and finance has enabled me to provide services for small businesses that help educate trainees on how to increase job performance and maintain engagement for longer periods of time.

In my personal life, I am a homeschool instructor and certified tester for annual end-of-grade exams. My experience in this area has allowed me to test various courses and online designs to determine as well as personalize curriculum for many different students. The ability to quickly ascertain the needs of individuals has allowed me to be successful in the home and secular education environment through use of recommendation and testing services. I am currently in the process of creating a curriculum guideline that would be relevant and helpful for the millions of students who are currently being educated in the homeschool environment. I would like to focus primarily on homeschool science education, as this is an area with an opportunity for growth.

As a graduate student, I have extensive experience with performing tasks through online methods. My background with the special needs community has given me the unique ability to understand various perspectives and to adequately anticipate the needs of my clients and partners.  Through my appointment as graduate research assistant to Dr. William Sugar, I have learned precise organization skills and perfected my time management skills. I also had the opportunity to present research at the AECT convention in Las Vegas and also plan to do so in 2017.  I will continue to focus on research involving the many skills required of professional instructional designers and the training needed to equip current graduate students for these roles. I believe that success lies in the accuracy of the technological methods used to educate individuals and seeks to establish greater research skills to identify the best means to achieve this. My ultimate goal is to obtain a PhD in Instructional Technology so that I may further contribute to the success of child and adult learners through research and practice.

If I am elected as Secretary of the Research and Theory Division, I will use that opportunity to gain more experience and provide greater contributions to the AECT family that I have come to know and love. I will dedicate my time and efforts in furthering the mission of this great organization!
